Grace’s 90th Birthday
Over 50 guests celebrated Grace Shepherd’s 90th birthday party with drinks in the Old Rectory and lunch in the village hall. Over the years Grace has given so much to the village it seemed a lovely opportunity to say thank you. Happy birthday Grace, and we all look forward to enjoying a rerun in 2017.

Village Fete
We escaped the rain on Father’s Day for an old fashioned afternoon of gentle entertainment, featuring Ern’s sheep race, presided over by Anthony Ffookes.
Other attractions included Gilcombe Famr’s excellent hog roast, strawberries and ice cream, and the village cider (surely not 6.5% proof – Ed.).
We had plant and cake stalls, children’s tent, water slide, horse and trap rides around the village, and traditional games including skittles, won this year by Phillip Stone (mens), Charlotte Hawkins (women), and Florence Kissaine (under 16).
Thank you to everyone who helped for their time and enthusiasm. Money raised goes towards the upkeep of the Village Hall.

Apple Day
Thanks to all who turned out to pick this year’s apples at Ern’s orchard. We picked something like 2 tonnes this year, which should make us something around 220 gallons, currently sitting in 5 barrels in the cider shed.

Harvest Supper
We enjoyed a lovely Harvest Lunch after the Thanksgiving Service on 17th October in the Marquee behind the church.

Carol Singing
…round the village followed by drinks at The Manor House. A hardy group of over twenty braved the cold, collecting for charity.
