Mrs Warren’s Profession
NT Live Production filmed from London’s West End, with Imelda Staunton and Bessie Carter. Directed by Dominic Cooke.

Thursday 3rd April 2025 brought the sound of the Kora instrument to the village hall when we hosted, through Take Art, Suntou & Mamudou Susso from the Gambia. The kora, a harp-lute with 22 strings, is unique to the Griots of the Mandinka people. The concert was sold out with the father & son duo, also accompanied by another son at times, mesmerising the audience with their musicianship. How fortunate we are to have such great performers in Lamyatt.
Friday 23rd August 2024 saw a lively performance of ‘BIRTHDAY DAY‘
Wassail Theatre’s presentation of a play about rural life. It was an outdoor performance in the garden of Speeds Farm where many of the audience were invited to participate!
Friday 9th February 2024 saw ‘John Peel’s Shed’
John Osborne brought his tale of winning 150 of John Peels LPs from the radio show, and then told a few more stories of life with all the humorous anecdotes thrown it. He even played a few extracts off the LPs! The Show was a sell out, and it was a good Friday evening enjoyed by all.
Sunday 17th December 2023 was Taffy Thomas presenting ‘Midwinter Tales
‘This was story telling at its very best! The original storyteller laureate Taffy Thomas MBE, ex-Yeovilian and now Grasmere based, was accompanied by squeeze box/violinist musician Mossy Christian from Lincolnshire. They took us on a magical journey to explore stories of snow and ice before gently warming us up with warm words on a cold afternoon. Mulled Apple juice and home-made mince pies helped us all enjoy a super event!
Thursday 9th November 2023 – Blair Dunlop played Live/Solo
Blair is a BBC Folk Award winner & “one of the UK’s finest singer songwriters” (Songwriting Magazine). We can concur with that as he wowed the sell-out audience with his own songs and some famous covers.
On Thursday 23rd March 2023 we had yet another sold out full house for the latest in the Take Art events that we promote: ‘Holy Cow!’ – Indian story telling with musical accompaniment by sitar, and Indian street food. The evening saw the return of Emily Hennessey & Sheema Mukherjee who wowed us in 2018 with their performance of ‘Kali’. (See previous review). Emily & Sheema kept us spell bound with an evening of tales and drama, whilst all attending were also treated to some delicious Indian Street food produced by the village volunteers.
In February 2023 we hosted another excellent live music night with a folk duo booked through the Take Art scheme. Janice Burns & Jon Doran (below) were not only good instrumentalists but had great harmonies playing a range of both traditional and modern folk. All attending were also treated to a very good ploughman’s supper.
